wearing black versus white, skinny in black

Does Black Really Make You Look Slimmer? It's True Science Says!

What to wear this holiday season?  There's a reason the little black dress is the "go to" when in doubt!

Fashion is always changing, but one rule remains the same: Wearing black makes you look skinnier.

And in this case, what seems too good to be true actually isn't, and it all comes down to science.

Then in 1867, Hermann Von Helmholtz discovered that a white square set against a black backdrop looks larger than a black square against a white backdrop, even though they’re the same size!

But now, neuroscientists believe they have found an explanation. They say it’s in the way our eyes percieve the colors.

Our neurons tend to exaggerate the size of light stimuli, while seeing the dark for what they are.

One reason dark colors have this effect is that they draw the eye away from the body to the head, hands and feet, making you appear taller and slimmer. They also help hide any bumps or bulges. By contrast, lighter colors emphasize your contours, as these are more likely to produce shadows in light-colored clothing.

So next time you can't decide what to wear, just stick with the darker colors!
